Analysis of the status quo of China's medical waste treatment industry in 2020

With the development of medical science and technology and the improvement of people's living standards and health conditions, disposable medical and health products have begun to be widely used in clinical practice, which has brought huge difficulties to the treatment of medical waste. However, due to the lack of long-term attention to the disposal of medical waste in my country, the current level of medical waste management technology and hardware in China lags behind the development of social economy. Therefore, the current medical waste treatment in my country is very chaotic, and there are even phenomena such as selling it to recycling vendors, discarding it at will, and mixing it with domestic waste. Chart 1: Current status of medical waste treatment in my country Source: Compiled by Qianzhan Industry Research Institute Chart 2: Development pain points of my country's medical waste treatment industry Source: Compiled by Qianzhan Industry Research Institute China's medical waste treatment technology: high temperature incineration method, The remaining technologies are supplemented by a variety of medical waste disposal technologies in my country, including sterilization, incineration, plasma, pyrolysis and sanitary landfill. Among them, the high-temperature incineration method is the mainstream technology in the field of medical waste treatment. The reason is that the incineration method is suitable for all kinds of infectious medical waste, because 92% of the total weight of medical waste is flammable components, and the non-combustible components are only 8%. , Under certain temperature and sufficient oxygen conditions, it can be completely burned into ashes. Incineration treatment is a chemical process of deep oxidation. Under the action of high temperature flame, the medical waste in the incineration equipment is converted into residue and gas through three stages of drying, ignition and incineration. Pathogenic microorganisms and harmful substances are in the incineration process. It is also effectively destroyed due to high temperature, and can effectively reduce volume and weight. In addition, the plasma method is an innovative technology for the treatment of medical waste. It can kill all microorganisms in the medical waste with the high temperature generated by the plasma arc furnace, destroy the toxic drugs and toxic chemicals remaining in the cells, and sharpen the metal. equipment and inorganic chemicals are melted and completely destroyed. Figure 3: Comparison of various medical waste treatment technologies Source: Prospective Industry Research Institute Scale of China's medical waste generation: rapid growth year by year Due to the wide range of medical waste sources, it is difficult to accurately and strictly count the amount generated. Usually, the total amount of medical waste generated is estimated based on the number of hospital beds, the utilization rate of hospital beds, and the average daily amount of medical waste generated per unit bed, that is, the total amount of medical waste generated by medical institutions = the amount of medical waste generated in the inpatient department + the outpatient medical treatment amount of waste generated. Prospective estimates the amount of medical waste generated in my country in recent years based on the production standards of medical waste in various medical institutions in my country, the number of hospital admissions and the average length of stay in hospital in recent years, and the number of patients treated. The data shows that with the rapid increase in the number of hospital admissions and the number of diagnosis and treatment in my country, the amount of medical waste in China is increasing year by year. 6.05%, a very rapid growth. In addition, according to the number of inpatients and the number of medical services in my country from January to October 2017, it is expected that the amount of medical waste generated in my country will reach 1.9903 million tons in 2017. Figure 4: China's medical services from 2010 to 2017 (unit: 10,000 people, days, 10,000 person-times) Source: Prospective Industry Research Institute Chart 5: China's medical waste generation and year-on-year growth from 2010 to 2017 (unit: 10,000 tons, %) Source: Prospective Industrial Research Institute sorting out medical waste is very harmful, and the standardized development of the industry needs to be accelerated. Medical waste has the characteristics of space pollution, acute infection and latent infection. Ten times or even hundreds of times, if the management is not strict or the disposal is improper, medical waste can easily cause pollution to water, soil and air, easily become the source of virus transmission, and cause the spread of the epidemic. Although my country promulgated the 'Measures for the Management of Medical Waste in Medical and Health Institutions' as early as 2003, due to the lack of long-term attention, the development of the medical waste treatment industry has been slow. emission status. Therefore, in the future, it is necessary and urgent to speed up the formulation of medical waste treatment measures and treatment standard policies, increase enforcement efforts, and encourage social capital in the industry to enter the industry, so as to standardize the development of the industry.
