ASTM D3887 Fabric Density Test Standard

1. Scope This test method is applicable to all kinds of knitted fabrics, such as warp knitting, weft knitting and so on. 1.1 Overview of the method---Use a magnifying glass and other instruments to determine the number of courses or wales per unit length of the warp or weft of the fabric. 1.2 Significance and usage---This method is used for commercial shipment acceptance testing. If the buyer and seller dispute the report results, such as value deviation, the buyer and seller’s testing room should evaluate whether the samples are taken from the same batch of fabrics. . 1.3 Instruments and equipment---Any magnification or calculation equipment (such as magnifying glass, ruler, small needle, microscope, etc.). 2. Sampling 2.1 Obtain samples according to Part 6 or the agreement between the buyer and the seller. 2.2 Obtain a sample with an overall width of at least 2 meters in length from a roll or batch. 2.3 Constant temperature and humidity --- Place the sample in a constant temperature and humidity room to a constant weight (weigh every 2 hours, and the last two weight deviations do not exceed 0.1% when the weight is constant). 3. Step 3.1 Measure the number of rows and rows outside 1/10 of the width and 0.5 meters (0.5 yards) from the end of a horse or roll. 3.2 Unless otherwise specified, the front side of the fabric is usually measured. 3.3 If the fabric contains 10 loops per cm (25 loops per inch) or more, the number of wales and courses of at least 5 cm (2 inches) shall be measured at 5 different positions in each batch. 3.4 If the fabric contains less than 10 loops per centimeter (less than 25 loops per inch), the number of wales or courses within at least 10 cm (4 inches) shall be measured at 5 different positions in each batch. 3.5 If the fabric has a pattern or pattern, determine the number of wales or courses of the entire loop length of the fabric pattern. 3.6 Graphically indicate the number of vertical rows or rows/in 25 or more than 25, the minimum measuring distance is 2 inches (5 cm) 4 inches (10 cm) and the number of measurements (positions) 5 5 4. Calculate 5 different positions The average of the number of rows or wales per 2.5 cm (1 inch), accurate to 0.1 wales or rows. 5. The report 5.1 indicates that this test is in accordance with ASTM D 3887, and describes the materials and methods used. 5.2 Report the following: 5.2.1 The average of the number of rows and vertices per 2.5 cm (1 inch), first the number of rows (wales/in) and then the number of vertices (courses/in). 5.2.2 List the size of the pattern cycle. 5.2.3 List the temperature and humidity during the test, such as: the standard environment and humidity conditions for testing textiles. 6. Accuracy 6.1 Accuracy---This method has established the accuracy of the horizontal and vertical density of knitted fabrics. More about: Textile Instruments
