Fabric vertical burning tester burning performance test instructions

1. Test instrument: VTEC vertical combustion tester 2. Test standard: ASTM D6413, DOC-FF 3/71, CALIF TB-117, GB/T5455, CPAI-84 3. Test principle: Use the flame produced by the specified igniter, Ignite the center of the bottom edge of the sample in the vertical direction. After the specified ignition time, measure the continuous burning time, smoldering time and damage length of the sample. Fourth, the composition of the instrument and equipment and the coordination of various parts: 1. The test cabinet, the side and top of the cabinet are provided with standard ventilation holes. The box door should be embedded with transparent refractory glass so that the tester can observe the burning condition of the sample. 2. The sample holder and its fixing device. The sample holder is provided with barbs, which are hung on the sample holder bracket on the upper part of the box body, and the middle part of the box body is also provided with a fixing device to ensure that the sample remains in the vertical direction. 3. Ignition timing system. The ignition timing system of the instrument is independent of the test box. Different standards, the control of ignition time is different. One is to control the gas supply time. After the time specified in the standard is reached, the gas is turned off and the external source combustion stops. One is to move the flame position. After the standard ignition time, the flame position is far away from the sample. 4. The timing device is to manually start the timing, test this to observe the surface state of the fabric, and press the switch to start timing. 5. Test process: Take GB/T 5455-2014 as an example to introduce the test process of vertical combustion test. 1. Close the front door of the test chamber, open the gas supply valve, light the igniter, and adjust the flame height. After burning for a certain period of time, extinguish the flame (exclude the air in the pipe). 2. Load the dried sample into the fixture, and the sample should be as flat as possible. Hang the upper end of the sample holder on the support, and the side is fixed by the sample holder fixing device. 3. Close the door and light the igniter. After the flame is stable, move the flame to just below the sample. 4. After the ignition time, remove the igniter, turn on the timer, and record the continued combustion time and smoldering time. Record the burning status of the sample at any time. 5. Turn on the fan or fume hood to remove the flue gas. 6. Open the door of the box, take out the sample, and hang a heavy hammer on one end of the fabric to test the damage length. The test method is shown in the figure. Fold a straight line along the highest point of the damaged area along the length of the sample, and then hang the selected weight on the lower end of the sample, about 6mm from the bottom and the sides of the sample, and then slowly lift it up by hand. On the other side of the lower end of the sample, let the heavy hammer hang in the air, then put it down, measure and record the length of the sample torn, which is the damaged length, accurate to 1mm. V. Precautions: 1. The burning of textiles may produce smoke and toxic gases that affect the health of operators, and test personnel need to wear gas masks. The test can be completed in a fume hood. Smoke and smoke should be removed after each test. 2. The ventilation system should be closed when the sample is burning to avoid affecting the test results. 3. When testing fabrics made of fusible fibers, if the test sample has melt droplets during the burning process, 10mm thick absorbent cotton should be laid flat on the bottom of the test box, and whether the absorbent cotton burns or smolders should be recorded. . Analysis of Pilling Influencing Factors and Testing Methods
Pilling testing plays a vital role in textile quality control, helping manufacturers evaluate and improve the wear performance of fabrics. Through the use of advanced instruments like ICI Pilling Box Test Method (GT-C18) , Martindale Abrasion Test Method (GT-C13B) , and Random Tumble Pilling Test Method (GT-C19A) , laboratories can conduct precise and standardized assessments, ensuring that final textile products deliver superior appearance, comfort, and longevity.
What is a Light Fastness Tester?
A Light Fastness Tester accelerates material aging by simulating sunlight (xenon lamps) and moisture to predict long-term durability. Used in textiles, automotive, plastics, and more, it follows AATCC TM 16, ISO 105-B02, and ASTM standards. Features include real-time light control, temperature/humidity regulation, and energy-efficient testing.
What Are the Types of Color Fastness Testing for Fabrics?
Color fastness testing evaluates how well fabrics resist fading or bleeding under conditions like washing, rubbing, light exposure, and perspiration. Key tests include rubbing fastness, washing fastness, light fastness, perspiration fastness, and sublimation fastness. These tests ensure textiles maintain color integrity, prevent health risks, and meet quality standards. Learn about different testing methods and equipment used in the textile industry.

Water Resistance Testing Standards and Methods
Textile water resistance testing evaluates fabrics through three primary methods: hydrostatic pressure (measuring water penetration resistance), spray rating (assessing surface water repellency), and water repellency tests (quantifying water absorption). Hydrostatic pressure testing is critical for high-performance applications like outdoor apparel and diving gear, while spray rating evaluates surface staining for rainwear. Water repellency tests, such as the Bundesmann method, determine overall
