The air permeability of the fabric refers to the performance of the fabric through the air when there is a pressure difference on both sides of the fabric. That is, under the specified pressure difference between the two sides of the fabric, the volume of air flowing through the unit area of the fabric per unit time, the unit is L/mm2·s. Because the pressure difference is a necessary condition for air to flow, only when a certain pressure difference is maintained on both sides of the fabric to be tested can air flow in the fabric.

When the fluid that fills the pipeline, when it flows through the throttling part in the pipeline, the flow beam will form a local contraction at the throttling part, and the static pressure will decrease, so a pressure difference will be generated before and after the throttling part. The greater the pressure difference, the flow rate can be measured according to the pressure difference. In many installations, the use of orifice flow meters is common. There are also some fabric air permeability test instruments that use venturi tubes and the like to measure flow. Compared with the orifice plate, the Venturi has less pressure loss and longer life. Whether it is an orifice throttling device or a venturi throttling device, the measurement method is based on the flow continuity equation (the law of conservation of mass) and the Bernoulli equation (the law of conservation of energy), which is suitable for measuring stable airflow. 


The following conditions must be met when using a standard throttling device for flow measurement: 

(1) The measured medium fills the entire pipe section and flows along a circular pipe with an inner diameter of not less than 50mm; for a Venturi pipe, its diameter should not be less than 100mm It should not be larger than 800mm. 

(2) The flow beam in the pipeline is stable, or can be considered to be stable in fact (when the flow beam is stable, the flow velocity and pressure do not change with time at the same point) 

(3) When the measured medium passes through the throttling device , its phase state remains unchanged (for example: the liquid does not evaporate, the superheated steam is still superheated, the gas dissolved in the liquid does not precipitate, etc.), and a single phase exists at the same time. For media with complex components, it should only be used if its properties are similar to those of single-component media.
